Quantity over Quality

.........................................................

When it comes to blogging, my biggest inspirations are people like John Gruber and Jason Kottke. People who blog a lot and yet, maintain such a high quality of writing. I always intended my blog to be something similar. But in an attempt to control quality, I started posting less frequently. The question I never asked was, how did John Gruber become so good? Browsing through Aaron Swartz’s archives gives us a clue ― they became good by writing more. Of course, when Gruber and Kottke were bad writers, blogging hadn’t been invented yet and so, their early writing is not documented. But for Swartz, you can see how he has improved as a writer over the years (crucially, he was 18 when he started blogging and now, he’s 22). There are other reasons why I want to write more ― writing is an extremely enjoyable activity when you don’t self-criticize yourself too much and secondly, 2 or 20 years from now, I want to know what it felt like to be an 18-year-old me.

So, I’ve decided to loosen my quality control. Of course, I won’t be posting every thought that runs through my mind, but I’ll be writing a lot more on a wider variety of topics.

What does it mean for you, the reader? Well, it means that there will be a lot more crap on this blog from now on. Good crap though. Just remember, the unsubscribe button is only a click away!
